AIPG Section Scholarship Programs

Purpose
Student Chapters scholarships assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG). In addition to the AIPG National scholarship the following sections also offer scholarships. Details for applying for these scholarships are provided in the links below.

Georgia Southern University - in memory of Dr. Jim Henry, the winning student must have an interest in coastal processes

All scholarships are $500.00
All students are eligible and the chairman or faculty members of the department elect the student in December and the award is given in the following April or May.

Missouri Section's Tuition Assistance Awards (Scholarships)

 

The Association of Missouri Geologists (AMG) is pleased to announce that the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) – Missouri Section is again sponsoring a student poster session in conjunction with this year’s AMG annual meeting in Joplin, MO. The AIPG-Missouri Section will pay the AMG banquet fees for participating students and also award tuition assistance cash prizes to the top three presenters in the amount of $600, $400, and $200 for first, second and third place respectively. Geoscience students from all Missouri universities and colleges are welcome to participate. The abstract deadline is September 6, 2013. Abstracts must be submitted to rrohlfs@lbgkcmo.comon or before this date. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to take part.

Pennsylvania Section Student Scholarship

 

Amounts up to $500

Eligibility
Undergrad and Grad students accepted or enrolled in a geology or related major.
Must be a Pennsylvania resident.
There is no application deadline. It is an open request throughout the year.
We request a letter of interest that also provides any related geology education, work or extracurricular activities; school and major; Interests of study or career.

Chair of the AIPG Texas Section Scholarship Committee Announces Award Selections

Glen A. Collier, P.G., C.P.G., Chair of the AIPG Texas Section’s Scholarship Committee announced today that he received word from the Denver AIPG office that three National scholarships have been awarded to the following students in Texas:

2016 William J. Siok National AIPG Graduate Scholarship ($1,000.00)

  1. Philipp Tesch, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. Michael C. Pope, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas

2016 National AIPG Undergraduate Scholarship($1,000.00)

  1. Emilie Bowman, University of Texas at Austin, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. John Lassiter, University of Texas at Austin, Texas
  2. Sean Czarnecki, San Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. Joseph I. Satterfield, San Angelo State University, Texas

2016 Eugene Merle Shoemaker Graduate Scholarship ($2,500.00)

  2. William C. Farrell, Rice University, Houston, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. Harold R. Wanless, University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida (Plaque)

2016 Ted H. Foss Undergraduate Scholarship ($1,000.00)

  1. Sarah P. Gerenday, Rice University, Houston, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. Cin-Ty Lee, Rice University, Houston, Texas (Plaque)
  2. Melanie G. Bowen, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas; Recommendation by Dr. Andreas Kronenberg, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas (Plaque)

The awards will be made by a member of the Scholarship Committee of the AIPG Texas Section with a commemorative plaque (and checks) presented during each of the above department’s graduation ceremony.

Congratulations to the students listed above for their outstanding performances to date. The AIPG Texas Section members trust that the they will continue to distinguish themselves and their universities in the years to come. We encourage those students who applied, but were not selected this year, to re-submit and update their applications for consideration next year. All applications received this year were from highly qualified students. The Committee reported that the scoring was very competitive (see Selection Process).
