Conflicts of interest are perhaps the most commonly encountered professional ethics issue. Resolution of a potential or actual conflict of interest first requires that the character of the conflict of interest be recognized and disclosed to affected parties.

This webinar will address a variety of case histories with contribution and insights from Abbott’s professional experience.

AIPG Ethics Columnist and Ethics Committee Chairman Emeritus

Abbott has been speaking and writing about professional ethics for over 30 years. He was the Chairman of the American Institute of Professional Geologists' (AIPG) Ethics Committee for 20 years and has written 172 Professional Ethics & Practices columns in AIPG's The Professional Geologist magazine. He is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy's Ethics Committee and is a professional development assessor for Chartered Professionals. He was a member the committees that prepared both editions (1999 & 2015) of the American Geoscience Institute's Guidelines for Professional Ethical Conduct. He has over written over 50 articles and book chapters on professional ethics for a variety of professional organisations, including the AusIMM Bulletin.
